    Spanje, een reisgids

    Spanje, een reisgids

    Dikke paperback met zijflappen, mooi exemplaar. Geen naam voorin, geen aantekeningen, schoon en fris. Miniem leesvouwtje, verder in zeer goede staat. Geillustreerd.

    Een goede gids kent zijn territorium als zijn broekzak, maar is in staat zich ook steeds weer te laten verleiden en verrassen. Zo`n gids is Rik Zaal. Hij bereisde Spanje tot in de verste uithoeken, maar het land kan hem na al die jaren nog steeds met stomheid slaan zoals dat altijd het geval is met grote liefdes.
    Een goede gids probeert zijn liefde op zijn gevolg over te brengen. Zo`n gids is Rik Zaal ook. Met hetzelfde aanstekelijke enthousiasme als waarmee hij de lezer rondleidt in musea en achteraf gelegen kerkjes, waarvoor soms tientallen kilometers moet worden omgereden, vertelt hij over alledaagse zaken als de keuken van Spanje (waarbij hij er geen been in ziet de lezer een compleet recept voor te schotelen), de luchtbrug tussen Madrid en Barcelona (zo`n veertig vluchten per dag!) of het Museu del FC Barcelona, trots van Catalonië.
    Zaal maakt Spanje niet mooier dan het is. Zo beschrijft hij de streek ten westen van Castellon als `de hel op aarde` en ziet hij in de moderne architectuur in de stad Gijon erg veel lelijkheid. Het is de eerlijkheid die je van een goede gids verwacht, het is de bekentenis van een geliefde die je niets wil onthouden.
    Wie met Rik Zaal Spanje bereist, per auto of vanuit zijn luie stoel, leert het land kennen van binnen en van buiten. Het Spanje van Zaal: wie er een keer geweest is, wil er steeds weer naar terug.

    Rik Zaal;
